ABOUT THE FILM
THE EVIL DEAD
Directed by: Sam Raimi (Darkman, Xena, Hercules, Evil Dead 2, Evil Dead 3)
Starring Bruce Campbell (Evil Dead 2 (Dead By Dawn), Evil Dead 3 ( Army of
Darkness), Hercules, Xena
“The most ferociously original horror movie I’ve ever seen”. Steven King.
“The Evil Dead” has become one of the most popular cult horror movies ever made.
Shot over the course of several years, “The Evil Dead” is a shining example of
low budget filmmaking at its finest. The story centres on five young adults
renting an isolated cabin for a weekend of partying. After arriving they
discover an old book and an audio tape. They play the tape, only to discover
that it was made by the cabin’s prior occupant – a scientist working on a
translation of the ‘Necromonicon’ aka ‘The Book Of The Dead’. When the
translations are played aloud, they awake an ancient and unspeakable evil that
lives in the woods – an evil force intent on possessing the living.
What really makes the film is Raimi’s inspired direction. The film is buoyed by
his highly stylized camera movements, odd and intriguing shot selection, and the
manic, over-the-top glee that he takes in showcasing the film’s onscreen
carnage. Raimi achieves maximum effect from everything at his disposal – the
isolated and small cabin location, his actors and the hilariously gruesome gore
special effects.
“The Evil Dead” was the first in a trilogy of films: Evil Dead 2 – Dead By Dawn
and Evil Dead 3: Army Of Darkness. “The Evil Dead” is generally regarded as the
best of the three films and has become a classic horror film that spawned a
whole new generation of horror
films.
